Tour description

Day 1 – Arrival in Cape Town – (50KM)

You will be met at the airport and transferred to the depot to collect your bikes. From here short warm up tour to Bloubergstrand before we head into town to check in at the hotel. Welcome dinner in Mouille Point.

Day 2 – Cape Town – Calvinia – (400KM)

After breakfast our journey takes us along the West Coast and into the Cederberg Mountains. We stop in Rooibos Country in Clanwilliam before we continue to Calvinia in the afternoon. Traditional South African hospitality awaits us at dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 3 – Calvinia – De Aar – (450KM)

On our journey today we pass through small towns, many of which have their origins in a mission station. The area is known mainly for its Marino Sheep Farms. The dead straight road and the wide open country side bear similarities to the roads in the USA. We reach De Aar in the afternoon; the town lies almost precisely ½ way between Cape Town & Johannesburg and is the second largest railway junction in the country. Recently the area has become famous for its solar panel farms.

Day 4 – De Aar – Maclear (550KM)

Today we get an early start and head to Middelberg and on to Maclear. The journey takes us through some spectacular scenery past waving children into the highlands of the Eastern Cape. After checking in to our guesthouse we enjoy dinner in Maclear this evening.

Day 5 – Maclear – Underberg (300KM)

We continue around the southern tip of Lesotho and reach Underberg in the Drakensberg in the afternoon. We enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in Heimville.

Day 6 – Sani Pass Day Trip

Today we embark on a trip up the famous Sani Pass. The awe-inspiring Sani Pass climbs the face of the escarpment to an altitude of 2874m and into the “Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho”. It is the getaway to the “Roof of Africa”. The scenery is breath-taking and attracts visitors from all over the world. Originally developed as a bridal path in 1913, the pass served as an important link between the Underberg district and the remote settlement of Mokhotlong, in north-eastern Lesotho. The first vehicle negotiated the path in 1948. It is now used for the most part by 4×4 vehicles and has become the highlight of the Southern Drakensberg. The tour will reveal the history of the pass, geology of the mountains, flora & fauna, and a unique experience with the Basotho people. The highest pub in Africa offers a cold beer & lunch before the descent back to Underberg. For dinner tonight we enjoy a traditional South African Braai (BBQ) and reminisce about the great rally we have just attended around the fire.

Day 7 – Underberg – Clarens (450KM)

Today’s journey takes us through the Natal Midlands and along the Midlands Meander which is known for its local arts and crafts. The area is reminiscent of the English country side and after an ale or two at one of the quaint country tavern’s in Nottingham Road one can easily mistake ones whereabouts! We ride on into the central Drakensberg region where the beaming faces of small children and waving locals quickly remind us that we are in Africa. The Drakensberg Mountains continue to form the back drop to our journey north as we travel through the Golden Gate National Park. In the afternoon we check into our accommodation in the little town of Clarens. We enjoy dinner at a restaurant in town.

Day 8 – Clarens – Muldersdrift (400KM)

Today we leave the mountains behind and travel to the province of Gauteng. Our journey takes us past the Vaal Dam, South Africa’s largest dam which has coastline in 3 provinces. We stop to visit the historical motorcycle museum in Deneysville before we continue north past Johannesburg to our hotel on the rural outskirts of the city. Dinner tonight is quite a spectacle and meat lovers come into their own at Carnivore’s Restaurant.

Day 9 – Muldersdrift – Tzaneen (450KM)

Today we head north into the land of the Tswana People. Our journey takes us through Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) and on into the Limpopo Province. The scenery changes from endless grasslands to thick forests and deep valley’s as we make our way to Tzaneen in the afternoon. Dinner at the Hotel

Day 10 – Tzaneen – Hazyview (300KM)

Lush green forests, mountain passes and spectacular scenery await us on today’s journey as we ride along the panorama route following the meanderings of the Blyde River. The day is filled with many photographic highlights and winding roads past waterfalls, through valleys and across mountains. We check in at our guesthouse in the afternoon and enjoy a drink at the pub before get dinner.

Day 11 – Kruger National Park

Today we leave our bikes behind to go in search of Africa Big 5 in the Kruger National Park. We meet our qualified ranger at the gate to the park and embark on a safari adventure in open vehicles. We return to the guesthouse in the late afternoon. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 12 – Hazyview – Swaziland (300KM)

Today we leave South Africa behind and travel into the smallest Kingdom in Africa, Swaziland. Our scenic ride through the small kingdom takes us to our accommodation deep in the forests of Malkerns.

Day 13 – Swaziland – St. Lucia (400KM)

Today we make our way back into South Africa and the province of KwaZulu Natal. Our route takes us along the Elephant Coast down to St. Lucia. We arrive in the afternoon in time to watch the sun set across the Indian Ocean before enjoying dinner at a local Restaurant.

Day 14 – St. Lucia

Today we take a break from riding and enjoy the day at leisure to relax on the beach or take a drive in the support vehicle to Cape Vidal or the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game Reserve (own account). We enjoy dinner at a restaurant in town.

Day 15 – St. Lucia – Margate (400KM)

We follow the coast to Durban and continue through sugar cane fields down to the Natal South Coast. Dinner at the Hotel.

Day 16 – Margate – Chintsa East (550KM)

We leave early today and wind our way through the rural Eastern Cape to Chintsa. We arrive in Chintsa in time to watch the sun set over the ocean and enjoy a hearty dinner buffet. After dinner enjoy the peaceful surroundings or perhaps a game of pool in the bar.

Day 17 – Chintsa – Colchester (300KM)

After an early breakfast we bid farewell and make our way to East London. From here we take the coastal route and wind our way down to the greater Addo area. Our guesthouse lies at the entrance to the Addo Elephant Park. You have the opportunity to take part in an optional Sunset Game Drive in the Park (own account). We enjoy a game dinner at the Guesthouse.

Day 18 – Colchester – Knysna (300KM)

We travel on the National Road N2, passing Port Elizabeth, Humansdorp and through the Tsitsikamma forest. After a visit to the Storms River Mouth we continue through Plettenberg Bay and check in at our accommodation on the Knysna Lagoon. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 19 – Knysna – Montagu (360KM)

We travel across the scenic Outeniqua pass to Oudtshoorn, ostrich capitol of South Africa. After visiting an ostrich farm we continue along the Route 62 through the little Karoo to Montagu. After freshening up we enjoy dinner at the lodge.

Day 20 – Montagu – Hermanus (300KM)

We travel through Bonnievale to Swellendam and on to the Southern Most tip of Africa. From here our journey takes us to Hermanus. After freshening up we head into town for a seafood dinner.

Day 21 – Hermanus – Cape Town (250KM)

After breakfast we ride along the Coast on our way towards Cape Town. Enjoy the road as it winds its way along the coast to Somerset West. After a short trip on the highway we make our way along the coast around the Cape peninsula. After stopping for photos at the Cape of Good Hope we ride across the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Town and our hotel. We enjoy the city lights and a farewell dinner together and look back on our incredible adventure.

Day 22 – Departure

After breakfast we return the motorcycles and there is time to explore the city or take a trip up Table Mountain before your guide takes you to the airport for your flight out.
